The primary reasons for inception of Twenty20 format was that one dayers have become too long and too predictable. The primary flaw in ODI format was that the middle overs (with the exclusion of Power Play and Slog Overs) were too dull as there were too many dot balls, ones and twos and that was boring for the viewers.

Twenty 20 format especially IPL 2009 onwards seems to be heading on similar lines. In IPL 2009, teams batting first were putting up scores in the region of 110 to 140 with too many dot balls, singles and twos. The chasing was done methodically with ones and twos without any excitement which was what the crowd expected from this new format of the game...............
